The government of Uruguay offers help to Rio Grande do Sul in the face of the catastrophe that is ravaging the state. The Uruguayan Foreign Ministry published a statement expressing solidarity with the Brazilian people, especially those from the state of Rio Grande do Sul.
The number of deaths due to rain in Rio Grande do Sul increased to 31, according to data released by the State Civil Defense this Friday morning. The agency reports 74 people missing and another 56 injured.
According to Civil Defense, the number of affected municipalities reached 235. There are 7,165 people in shelters, while the number of homeless people is 17,087. Those affected total 351,639.
Porto Alegre declared a state of public calamity. The flood begins to punish the central area of the city with flooding in many streets. The city hall advises that the population avoid the Historic Center.
“All solidarity with the Federative Republic of Brazil and the sister state of Rio Grande do Sul in the face of the terrible climate emergency, with loss of human life and enormous material damage”, said the Chancellor of Uruguay about the situation.
“We are in contact with the Brazilian authorities, always ready to support”, Foreign Minister Omar Paganini posted on the social network X, the former Twitter.
The governor of Rio Grande do Sul Eduardo Leite declared that the natural disaster experienced by the state is unprecedented. “It is the most critical that the state will have on record. Try to protect yourself”, he pondered.
