The Government of Minas announced, this Thursday (2/5), investments in the areas of Education and Health in the city of Almenara, in the Vale do Jequitinhonha region.

There will be two new Basic Health Units (UBS) in the municipality and the official presentation of the new headquarters of the Regional Education Superintendency of Almenara.

The announcements were made during an event in the Almenara City Hall auditorium, which was attended by Governor Romeu Zema. The UBS will be installed in the Cidade Jardim and Planalto neighborhoods. The Government of Minas Gerais invested R$3.9 million so that the city hall, responsible for the interventions, can continue with the construction of the two units.

The governor highlighted that advances in health bring the population closer to the provision of services and highlighted that the measure has been applied in all regions of the state.

“These two new UBSs come to add to the existing ones here, greatly improving the population’s access to care. The application of resources has been a priority throughout the state. We want to provide more quality to the health of miners,” he said.

The governor highlighted the improvements in the area of health, and recalled that bringing access to care and treatments to all regions of the state is one of the priorities of state management. “The opening of new health equipment prevents people from having to travel long distances to access healthcare. We want to bring the population closer to local and qualified care, added the governor.

Service closer to the population

The two UBSs under construction are type I, which will each be able to accommodate a Family Health Team (ESF). It is worth mentioning that, on average, between 2 thousand and 3.5 thousand people receive care from a single ESF. With the two new teams, the expectation is that the capacity will be expanded to 6 thousand people.

Currently, the municipality has 11 Basic Health Units (UBS), which serve a population of more than 40 thousand people. With the new constructions, there will be 13 UBS in total, expanding primary care services.

More investments in Education

Still in the region, Governor Romeu Zema and the Secretary of State for Education, Igor de Alvarenga, presented investments in the department, such as the renovation and expansion of the property of the new headquarters of the Regional Education Superintendency (SRE) of Almenara.

The Government of Minas Gerais, through the Mãos à Obra na Escola program, carried out by the State Department of Education (SEE/MG), invested R$ 1.4 million in the renovation and expansion of the new headquarters.

Since December last year, the Almenara SRE has had its own headquarters and stopped paying rent, generating monthly savings of R$12,000 to the public coffers.

“This change in relation to the new headquarters of the superintendence is a significant advance, But I also want to remember that, in Education, we have achieved significant advances, such as the improvement of school buildings, furniture, construction of courts and technology equipment, both for staff and students. And this process will continue”, stated the governor.

In total, the Almenara Region has already received investments of R$25.7 million from the Mãos à Obra na Escola program, benefiting 49 state schools distributed in 20 municipalities.

The property that received the new SRE headquarters previously housed the State Center for Continuing Education (Cesec) Querubim Fróis Otoni. Cesec was transferred location and started to share the same property with the Laudelina Dias Lacerda State School.

Get to Work at School

Created in 2019 by the Government of Minas Gerais, investments in the program of reforms and expansions of schools in the state network have already reached the amount of R$943 million, providing more comfort and better study conditions for students in 1,820 state schools distributed across 609 municipalities from all regions of the state.
