Alagoas presents an increase in cases of severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) in a long-term trend. The increase is also registered in Maceió. The data is in the new edition of the InfoGripe Bulletin, released this Thursday, 2, by the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz). The information takes into account Epidemiological Week 17, from April 21st to 27th.

The scenario in the state repeats a national trend. The country recorded an increase in the number of SARS cases, mainly respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) and influenza infections. Given this epidemiological situation, vaccination is essential, highlights the researcher from the Fiocruz Scientific Computing Program and coordinator of the InfoGripe Bulletin, Marcelo Gomes.

“It is very important that the population seeks, in particular, to be vaccinated against influenza, which has an open campaign, expanded nationally by the Ministry of Health for all age groups. But as it is not the only respiratory virus that is widely circulating, the flu vaccine alone will not solve all the problems. It will obviously help to reduce these hospitalizations specifically associated with the virus. Therefore, the use of good masks is also an extremely fundamental ally, especially for anyone going to a health unit, and also for people who have symptoms of a respiratory infection.”

According to the bulletin, the greater circulation of RSV has generated a significant increase in the incidence and mortality of SARS in children up to 2 years of age. Other respiratory viruses that remain at a high incidence in the child population are Sars-CoV-2 (covid-19) and rhinovirus. Among the elderly, the number of deaths from SARS remains higher, with Covid-19 predominating.

Who can and where can get vaccinated against influenza

People over six months of age can receive the influenza vaccine. The vaccine offered is trivalent, capable of protecting against the three main types of viruses: Influenza A (H1N1), Influenza A (H3N2) and Influenza B.

Vaccines are being administered from Monday to Friday in all immunization rooms at Maceió Health Units, in addition to fixed vaccination points such as:

— Maceió Shopping (Monday to Saturday – 9am to 9pm)

— Pátio Shopping (Monday to Saturday, 1pm to 9pm / Sunday, 12pm to 7pm)

— Tourist Service Center (CAT Praia) – every day – 2pm to 9pm

— Saúde da Gente (Monday to Saturday – 8am to 8pm).
