Woman has disfigured face during fight in cafeteria and denounces homophobia

A woman’s face was disfigured after being attacked during a fight, which was allegedly motivated by homophobia, in a cafeteria in Bairro Luzia, in Aracaju, this Wednesday (1st).

The victim reported that he was at a table with eight other people and that a group of six men at the next table made homophobic comments. When one of her friends got up to go to the bathroom, he allegedly touched one of the men’s car and the incident led to a fight, with kicks and punches. The woman reportedly tried to break up the confusion, but she ended up suffering several injuries.

According to her, the suspects began to feel uncomfortable with the group’s presence in the establishment, uttering homophobic insults. The victim regretted what happened and said that she was having fun with her friends and that she did not expect this outcome. “Everyone wants to be accepted everywhere,” she said.

A police report was filed and is under investigation by the Special Police for dealing with Homophobic crimes, Racism and Religious Intolerance.

According to the Public Security Secretariat, the victim and a witness have already testified. The victim was also taken to the Legal Medical Institute (IML) for forensic examinations.

The police requested measures to collect images of the place where the attack occurred to identify the attackers. Information that may contribute to the investigation can be passed on through the Hotline, on 181. Confidentiality is guaranteed.
