Governor Raquel Lyra delivered, last Tuesday (30), the new tomograph of the Institute of Legal Medicine (IML) in Recife. The new equipment that will reinforce the work of the State security forces was delivered during the inauguration of the unit’s Radiology and Forensic Imaging Center. It was acquired through an agreement with the National Public Security Secretariat (Senasp), and cost R$1.5 million.
With the CT scanner, Pernambuco is the first state in the North-Northeast and the sixth in the country to implement a less invasive thanatoscopic examination, as Raquel Lyra highlights.
The equipment will also assist the work of IML professionals in defining the causes of deaths, ensuring quality and speeding up investigations.
Used mainly in more complex cases, which require a thorough investigation, the tomograph will assist in the preparation of medical-legal expert reports.
According to Paulo Ferraz, manager of IML Recife, the equipment is of great importance for resolving causes of death.
The machine enables three-dimensional (3D) reconstruction of the body, allowing for a less invasive necropsy and with greater ability to detect details. The tomograph will be located in an exclusive room so that it can be used and provide greater effectiveness in technical-scientific activities.
