A concrete bridge gave way and was washed away by a flood in Santa Tereza, in Serra do Rio Grande do Sul, on Tuesday afternoon (30). The collapse of the structure occurred at a time when Mayor Gisele Caumo (PP) was recording a video warning about the impacts of the rain. The information is from g1.

In the images, it is possible to see the strong flow of water dragging tree branches and debris. At the end of the recording, the structure collapses and is no longer seen. The bridge was on Rua Saldanha Marinho and gave access to communities in the interior of the municipality. The route also connects Santa Tereza to São Valentim do Sul.

According to Civil Defense, a second bridge was washed away in the town of Linha Pederneiras, in the interior of Santa Tereza. Teams are still assessing whether other structures were hit.

Damage in Rio Grande do Sul
Rio Grande do Sul has been hit by heavy rains since Monday. According to Civil Defense, 77 municipalities recorded incidents. Eight deaths have already been confirmed and 21 people are missing.
In total, according to g1 information, 19,110 people were affected by the storms. Of these, 1,145 are in shelters and 1,431 are homeless.
Two of the deaths occurred in Paverama, when a car was swept away by the flood. The third was in Pantano Grande, which killed a man. Two women also lost their lives, one in Encantado and the other on the border between Itaara and Santa Maria. The sixth victim died in Salvador do Sul, after a landslide destroyed houses.
Disappearances were recorded in Candelária (eight people), Encantado (six) and Roca Sales (four).

On Tuesday night (30), Leite asked President Lula (PT) to send aid to the affected cities “urgently”. The federal government has already sent two Brazilian Air Force (FAB) aircraft to rescue stranded people.
