President of the Parliamentary Front for Water, within the scope of the Legislative Assembly of Rio Grande do Norte, state deputy Francisco do PT promoted this Tuesday (30), a working meeting to address the main issues under debate regarding water resources in the State.

A meeting attended by experts, managers, social and environmental movements, as well as various social representations, addressed the current situation of water reservoirs in light of this year’s rainfall, as well as ongoing water works and the revitalization of the basin of Potengi.

“It is extremely important for us to expand the debate with the different social and political segments to address the water issue, even more so in this context of a lot of rain and several bleeding reservoirs”, highlighted Francisco.

The parliamentarian also insisted that the progress of the main water works underway in the State, such as the completion of the Oiticica Dam, the recovery of the Passagem das Trairas Dam, the Seridó Project and the Ramal do Apodi, among others.

Finally, after listening to the speeches of the representations and the public, Francisco stressed the need to ‘maintain vigilance’. “We live in a semi-arid climate and although we are doing well in terms of water supply, we cannot let our guard down, as living with the effects of drought is a reality that we can never ignore”.

Present at the meeting were representations from SEMARH, IGARN, CAERN, SAPE, SEDRAF, IDEMA, FETRAF, FETARN, ENPARN, ASA POTIGUAR, ADESE, EMATER, FEMURN, DNOCS, SEAPAC and various River Basin Forums.
