Brazil was the second largest global recipient of foreign direct investment (FDI) in net terms in 2023, behind only the United States, according to data from the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).
Brazil received US$64 billion in FDI last year, compared to US$73 billion in 2022.
China had historically low flows and fell to fourth place in the ranking, in the context of “continuous geopolitical tensions and high interest rates”, according to a statement from the OECD published this Tuesday, 30.
Globally, FDI flows decreased by 7% in 2023, to US$1.364 trillion, “continuing a downward trend and remaining below pre-pandemic levels for the second year in a row,” the OECD said.
Outside the OECD alone, flows fell by 46%.
