MDB falls, but remains 1st, and PSDB takes 2nd place in number of members in MS – Politics

The MDB remains the largest party in terms of number of members in Mato Grosso do Sul. According to party membership statistics, available on the TSE (Superior Electoral Court) portal, the party currently has 43,174 people affiliated, which corresponds to 14.47% of the total 298,215 party members in the State. PSDB and PT appear next.

Even consolidated in first position, the MDB experienced a small drop of 0.56% in the number of members between the 2022 and 2024 elections (until April). During the period, the party went from 43,469 to 43,174, that is, it lost 295 members.

The PSDB, which in the 2022 elections had 31,785 members, jumped 7.48% and overtook the PT. Currently, the party that has the governor, 3 federal deputies, 6 state deputies, 50 mayors and 247 councilors elected in the State, has 34,091 members, occupying the second position in absolute numbers.

Falling to third place, the PT lost 136 members between the 2024 and 2024 elections and currently has 33,412 members. The PDT, which had the fourth largest number of members, lost 4.27% of its members, going from 20,086 to 19,207. As a result, it was surpassed by the recently created PRD and PP.

As a result of the merger between PTB and Patriota, the PRD reached 24,521 members in 2024. In the 2022 elections, the parties that merged had 19,202 and 6,625 members, respectively. The PP registered an 18.34% jump in the number of members, from 17,642 in 2022 to 20,920 in 2024.

Higher percentages of growth and losses

The parties considered “dwarf” were the ones that recorded the most percentage increases in their membership. The UP (Popular Unity) showed growth of 1.367% between the 2022 and 2024 elections. However, the number of members is still extremely small. There were only 3 in 2022 and now the association has 44.

The PCO (Partido da Causa Operária) increased by 147% in the same period, going from 48 to 119 members. Next comes Novo, which increased its membership by 95.72%, from 443 to 868 members. PSOL grew 61.61%. In the elections, the party had 2,453 members and currently has 3,964.

The biggest loss of members was registered in the PSC, which lost 23.44% of its staff, going from 4,557 to 3,493. The PRTB had a 9.42% reduction in members between 2022 and 2024, followed by the PCB (-4.7%); PMN, which was renamed Mobiliza (-4.47%), Cidadania (-3.92%) and PSD (-3.8%).
