PMCE collects 51 fossils during inspections at quarries in the municipalities of Nova Olinda and Santana do Cariri

During environmental prevention work and inspection of Ceará’s heritage, the Military Police of Ceará (PMCE) collected, on the morning of this Monday (29), 51 units of fossils that were found during the extraction of rocks, in quarries. The action took place in the rural area of ​​Nova Olinda and Santana do Cariri – Integrated Security Area 19 (AIS 19) of the State.

A team from the Environmental Police Battalion (BPMA), in a preventive action against fossil trafficking, went to the laminated limestone quarries, located in the rural areas of the aforementioned municipalities and, with the help of local workers, collected 51 fossils found during mineral extraction.

In total, 51 fish fossils, Chondrichthyes, were collected. The fossils were delivered to the Plácido Cidade Nuvens Museum of Paleontology for study and exhibition.
