A 14-year-old teenager was killed in a clash with the Military Brigade (BM) during action against drug trafficking in Porto Alegre on Sunday afternoon (28). The BM alleges that he was armed and, therefore, reacted. The Civil Police are investigating whether or not there was self defense by the PMs. The teenager’s name was not released by authorities.
g1 contacted the Military Brigade’s communications department on Monday morning (29), but did not receive a response regarding the police officers’ conduct until the publication of this report.
According to delegate Clarissa Demartini, responsible for the investigation, the case happened around 5:30 pm on Sunday. BM agents entered an area of the Cascata neighborhood on foot after reports that there was drug trafficking there..
On one of the streets, the police allegedly spotted a group of eight people with firearms. Right now, there was the first confrontation between police and criminals.
The group would have fled through a forested area. The police asked for support and searches, including with a helicopter, began to be carried out. The teenager was located and allegedly reacted, shooting with a pistol. The police fired at him, and he was shot and died.. The weapon he used was seized.
“The investigation is now seeking to find out whether it was an unjust attack carried out by the teenager that motivated self-defense or whether it was not”, explains delegate Clarissa.
Later, another suspect was located. He was arrested.
Delegate Clarissa says that The teenager has a police record for drug trafficking. Two cases were registered at the end of 2023 and another two this year.
