A industrial production in Santa Catarina had growth of 6.6% in February, compared to the same month last year, and represents the sixth consecutive increase in the indicator.

According to analysis of the FIESC Observatorythe increase in industrial activity in the state is due to the cycle of falling interest rates and the improvement in credit granting indicators, which continue to stimulate sectors producing capital goods and durable consumption.

The current phase of the economy allows companies to be in a better position to invest in equipment and machinery to expand or improve their production”, explains the president of the Federation of Industries of SC (FIESC), Mario Cezar de Aguiar.

Among the segments analyzed, the electrical equipment sector led the expansion in February, with an increase of 21.3% in relation to the same period of the previous year. The machinery and equipment sector also showed a positive change, 3.27%. Both benefited from access to credit and also from exports. In the wake of the two sectors above, metallurgical production increased by 3.6% in the second month of the year.

Maintaining the level of family consumption is another relevant factor that has been impacting the results of industrial activity. The food industry grew 10.5% in February, while textile production increased 12.4% in the comparison period.

The economist at the FIESC Observatory, Gustavo Kurmannexplains that the textile segment recorded the fifth consecutive growth in industrial activity:

In addition to the production of knitted fabrics, to meet changes in collections, the industries of various textile products, such as cotton bags and raffia, and elastic ribbons have contributed to this positive result”.

The wood products sector, which has grown 13.4%, its performance was also impacted by family consumption. The increase in foreign sales also positively affected the result.
