Bus accident in the interior of Minas Gerais leaves at least seven dead and several injured

An accident involving a travel bus left at least seven people dead, on BR-116, at KM 85, in Medina, in the Vale do Jequitinhonha region, on Saturday night (27). According to information from the Fire Department, teams from the city of Araçuaí were called.

Among the dead were one woman and three men. The military was called to the scene of the accident at around 8:20 pm, with more than 30 victims injured and in serious condition, taken to hospitals in Medina and Itaobim, close to the region. Three deaths were confirmed in BR, two in Itaobim hospital and one in Medina hospital.

The bus overturned on a curve and only one of the fatal victims was identified, being a 26-year-old girl, born in Águas Belas/PE.

According to Sergeant Marcio Antônio, from the 3rd Platoon of Araçuaí, in the Jequitinhonha Valley, the vehicle was leaving Pernambuco headed for São Paulo. The military believes that the travel bus was clandestine, as there was no list of passengers and the driver was not located. The highway was reopened around 3:30 in the morning.

At the scene, forensic experts were called and are now investigating the causes of the accident.
