Inmet issues danger alert for cities in 6 states, including Mato Grosso
The National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet) issued an alert for almost 700 cities in six Brazilian states due to the risks of an upcoming heat wave. The alert will be in effect from this Saturday night (04/27), and will last until next Wednesday, May 1st. The orange classification of the alert indicates danger, with temperatures up to 5ºC above average expected for a period of three to five days, which could pose significant health risks.
The affected municipalities include 373 cities in the State of São Paulo, followed by 155 in Paraná, 79 in Mato Grosso do Sul, 45 in Mato Grosso, 22 in Minas Gerais and 21 in Goiás.
This is the fourth record of a heat wave in Brazil this year alone. Inmet anticipates a hot weekend across the country, with temperatures that could exceed 30°C in most capitals. On Saturday, only Brasília (DF) and Florianópolis (SC) should be below this mark. On Sunday (28), expect that Porto Alegre (RS), Teresina (PI) and, again, Florianópolis will not reach this maximum temperature.
