Four municipalities in the state of Goiás emerge as protagonists among the one hundred most promising economies in Brazil, as revealed in the most recent Bulletin from the Mauro Borges Institute of Statistics and Socioeconomic Studies (IMB), linked to the General Secretariat of Government. Based on consolidated data on the municipalities’ Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in 2021 by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), Goiânia, Anápolis, Aparecida de Goiânia and Rio Verde achieve prominent positions in the national economic panorama. The state capital, Goiânia, stands out, occupying the impressive 15th position in the national ranking, with a GDP that exceeds R$59 billion. Anápolis, Aparecida de Goiânia and Rio Verde follow closely, in 75th, 80th and 82nd positions respectively, highlighting the dynamism and economic solidity of Goiás.

Detailed Economic Panorama of Goiás Furthermore, the IMB report offers a thorough analysis of Goiás’ internal economy, highlighting the ten largest municipal economies of 2021. Headed by Goiânia, with a GDP of R$59.8 billion, these cities contribute 55.3% to the state’s GDP. Erik Figueiredo, executive director of IMB, highlights the importance of this bulletin as an essential tool for guiding investments and shaping public policies that boost economic advancement in all regions of the state.

Significant Contributions of Agriculture and Industry The agricultural sector in Goiás stands out, with nine municipalities among the 100 largest producers in Brazil, representing 35.3% of the state total and contributing 2.41% to the sector’s national added value. Rio Verde, Jataí and Cristalina lead this list. As for the industrial sector, Goiânia and Anápolis are among the ten municipalities that dominate the state scenario, with 59.1% of the state’s added value, with Catalão being notable for its significant manufacturing industry.

Strength of the Services Sector Excluding public administration, the services sector demonstrates a significant presence in Goiás, with ten municipalities representing 65.1% of the state total. This highlights the diversity and adaptability of the Goiás economy in the face of contemporary challenges.
