With the aim of improving mobility on the North Coast of Alagoas, with significant gains in the region’s tourism infrastructure, as well as in the flow of products, the government of Alagoas, through the Secretariat of Transport and Urban Development (Setrand), concluded the asphalt paving of Highway AL-101 North. The stretch, 13 kilometers long, covers the municipalities of Barra de Santo Antônio and Barra de Camaragibe.

Known as the ‘Barra a Barra’ Highway, it has improvements in the drainage system, earthworks, implementation of asphalt paving, horizontal and vertical road signage system and also a two-dimensional cycle lane along its entire length.

To complete the work, the government of Alagoas invested resources of around R$35.3 million, coming from the State Treasury. The Highway was built by Setrand and is part of the Pró-Estrada Program.

For the Secretary of State for Transport and Urban Development (Setrand), Mosart Amaral, the work is strategic for economic development and tourism in the state, mainly on the North Coast, one of the most sought after regions by visitors and new investors.

“It is an additional reinforcement for the region’s infrastructure and which has already been capitalizing on private investments. And also as an instrument for urban and road mobility”, highlights Mosart Amaral.

According to the secretary, the new highway enables new businesses such as hotels, inns, bars and restaurants, in addition to increasing the value of properties, shortening distances and transporting production throughout the region.

As Setrand’s Special Superintendent of Large Works, Alberto Cruz, informs, with the new highway, the travel time between the two cities, which lasts around 50 minutes, will be just 10 minutes, with the construction of the bridge over the Camaragibe River, which is in the bidding phase.

In addition to the increase in tourism in the region, with the ‘Bara a Barra’ Highway, the route between the capital Maceió and the cities of the famous Milagres Ecological Route (Passo de Camaragibe, São Miguel dos Milagres and Porto de Pedras) will be reduced in time .

The resident of Ilha da Croa, Maria das Graças, 60, a retired fisherman, explains that the new highway only brings benefits to the local community, commerce, Vila dos Pescadores and tourists. “What used to be clay, dust and mud, today the reality is totally different for residents and visitors”, she celebrates.
