The Young Senator Program 2024 writing competition is aimed at public school students, aged up to 19 years old and attending high school. Each school must send an essay to the State Department of Education (Seduc), which will select three essays to be sent to the Senate. Among these three, one will be chosen as the winning essay, and the author will become the Young Senator representing Alagoas.
The theme of this year’s essay is “200 years of the Senate and the challenges for the future of democracy”, and participants can access the Writing Guide available on the official website of the Federal Senate. The program aims not only to promote learning about politics and citizenship among young people, but also to provide a unique immersion experience in the legislative environment.
In previous editions, students such as Éllydy Mayane Gonçalves, from the Judith Nascimento State School, in Messias, successfully represented the state of Alagoas as Young Senators. The young woman highlights the relevance of the program for her political training and commitment to Brazil’s progress.
The Young Senator Program schedule includes dates such as the end of registration on 04/30/2024, the selection of the state stage on 05/24/2024, the selection of the Senate stage on 06/05/2024 and the announcement of the winners by 06/21/2024. The Legislative Experience Week in Brasília is scheduled to take place from August 5th to 9th, 2024. The initiative aims to encourage the active participation of young people in politics and the country’s democratic process.
