Today, Azul received another factory-new Embraer E195-E2 jet, which was christened by President Lula and First Lady Janja.

The airline also confirmed today the receipt of 13 new Embraer 195-E2 aircraft that will join its fleet, in an investment of more than R$3 billion. The equipment will be delivered over the next few months, until the end of the year.

The announcement was made at Embraer’s headquarters, in São José dos Campos (SP), during the naming ceremony of an aircraft, which received the name “Azul & Embraer. Pride of Brazil.” The event was attended by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and government ministers, as well as John Rodgerson, CEO of Azul, and Francisco Gomes Neto, President and CEO of Embraer.

More than consolidating Azul as the best airline in the world, this deal reinforces our confidence in Embraer and in Brazil. 15 years ago, Azul began its history by investing in Brazilian industry with the decision to operate Embraer equipment, and today we are fully aware that this successful investment by Azul also represents a strong economic and social contribution to the country. Each aircraft received generates around 500 new jobs, in addition to being, in the long term, a boost to Tourism, which today represents more than 8% of the country’s GDP and moves a large gear, ranging from the technician who tightens a screw on the plane fuselage in São José dos Campos (Embraer headquarters), to the food served in a restaurant in a tourist destination in the Northeast”, says John Rodgerson, CEO of Azul.

Embraer’s E2 has capacity for 136 passengers, and is the largest and most modern aircraft manufactured in Brazil. The equipment is the most efficient single-aisle model currently on the market, offering savings of up to 25% in CO2 emissions. Azul currently operates 20 aircraft of this model.
