Another prison unit in Mato Grosso do Sul now has uniform clothing for inmates. At the Transit Prison (Ptran), one of the largest in the State, since the beginning of this month, inmates have been wearing standardized clothing.
The measure is part of a project by Agepen (State Agency for the Administration of the Penitentiary System) to standardize the clothing of inmates in all prison establishments.
The implementation of uniforms not only contributes to the healthiness of the penal unit, but also to security, as by reducing the number of clothes inside cells, it becomes easier to control and carry out searches, providing better results and ensuring a more controlled environment and security.
The uniforms for Ptran inmates are orange, in accordance with regulations established by Agepen. Furthermore, the management of the penal establishment created a standard to differentiate re-educated students who work in administration support services and need to move around some parts of the unit. For these, during the work period, the clothing is blue.
Initially, Agepen supplied fabric to make the pieces at the Gameleira II Penitentiary, totaling the delivery of 500 uniforms to the Transit Prison. However, a new stage was initiated by Ptran’s management, with the establishment of a sewing workshop within the unit, allowing the production of uniforms by the custodians themselves.
“With the initiative to take advantage of internal resources, such as setting up the sewing workshop, we are not only guaranteeing the production of uniforms, but also creating more job vacancies within the unit, in addition to training them in the clothing sector”, highlighted the director of Ptran, Pedro Paulo Prieto.
