A soil that is difficult to work with and needs improvement in management methods for certain cultivars. This is the silty soil, a type that exists in Mato Grosso and which appears to be a new frontier for agribusiness. Therefore, the Association of Soy and Corn Producers of Mato Grosso (Aprosoja-MT) carries out research at CTECNO Araguaia, in the region between Água Boa, Canarana and Nova Nazaré, looking for the best way to guarantee profitability in this soil.

This Thursday (25.04) Field Day took place, which is the opportunity to show rural producers the analytical work that has been carried out. In the edition, climate risks and agricultural planning for implementing crops in the second harvest were addressed.

Jorge Diego Giacomelli, 2nd administrative director of Aprosoja-MT, remembers that the entity’s research area focuses on a soil whose work is very difficult, after all, it is a soil that has little water storage and this generates the potential for having more deficit water for culture. However, there is little research focused on this field. The institution then set up the experimental station to bring to producers in the region and to this new frontier of agricultural production in the State, research focused on working with silty soil.

Luiz Pedro Bier, vice-president of Aprosoja-MT, assessed that the edition with off-season corn, at CTECNO, is the most important, to show producers how to have a second harvest in this region with a lot of silt.

“The intention, with this research center, is to make this second harvest viable in the region, and it was a wise choice to create the center here, in the Araguaia region, where there is a range of opportunities for rural producers”, he said.

Visit to CTECNO

The second harvest technical event talked about the projects currently developed at the Center and what is yet to come. Luiz Pedro Bier advanced the recovery of existing springs in the area acquired by the entity and research into wild pigs in crops.

André Somavilla, coordinator of CTECNO Araguaia, listed that the following were also addressed: the mechanization of agriculture, the need for use and quality of fertilizers, in addition to the climate risk for the second harvest in the Vale do Araguaia region, mainly corn.

Participating in CTECNO for the first time, Rafael Battisti, professor at the Federal University of Goiás (UFG), was one of the speakers at the workstations and defined the center as an experimental station of excellence, with soil analysis, crop rotations, including , associated with climatic conditions to increase the productive potential of main crops.

“Agricultural planning is essential to assess climatic conditions and, based on this, have a climate risk analysis. With this information, here at the experimental station, we have analyzed different corn hybrids that may have the potential to be used in years of greater climate risk. In addition, we will also work on the deadline for planting off-season corn, depending on climatic conditions and from then on, identify alternative crops to off-season corn within the experimental analyzes carried out at CTECNO”, he detailed.

Arlindo Cancian, associated with the Canarana Center, was present at the event and reinforced the importance of other rural producers also participating.

“Certainly, the producer needs to come and participate. It is very important to clarify your doubts and see what can be applied to your property.”
