The Mato-Grossense Institute of Agricultural Economics (Imea) released data on the development of second-crop corn crops in the state after the end of sowing of the 23/24 harvest on 03/22. According to analyzes by Imea, the majority of corn crops entered the bolting and flowering phases until last Friday (04/19). These stages are crucial in determining cereal productivity and require well-distributed rainfall to reach maximum production potential.

With more than 90% of the sown areas within the ideal “window”, it is estimated that a considerable part of the plantations developed under favorable climatic conditions. However, it is essential that rainfall volumes remain consistent until the end of April and beginning of May to benefit the rest of the areas.

Imea highlights the importance of monitoring the volume of rainfall in the coming weeks. According to forecasts from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), most of Mato Grosso is expected to receive an accumulated rainfall of 0 to 35 mm over the next two weeks, which could significantly influence crop development.
