Santos karateka Marcos Oshiro (Resistência/Fupes/Unisanta) won, on the 14th, the gold medal in the Brazilian Zonal Championship, held in Joinville (SC). With the victory obtained in the senior category (-84kg), he guaranteed a place in the final stage of the Brazilian Championship, which is scheduled for October or November. In the competition, karateka Sabrina Ferreira won bronze, in the senior category (-50kg).

Marcos started the season the same way he ended 2023: with victory. In the final phase of the last Brazilian Championship, last November, he stood out with three gold medals, obtained in the senior, under-21 and team categories.

In Joinville, the karateka won three fights, against two opponents from Santa Catarina and one from Paraná. “I was very happy with my performance and I feel that I am on the path to reaching an even higher technical level”, says the athlete, who this year wants to return to the top nationally.

In recent months, he participated in training for the Brazilian team that will represent Brazil in the Pan-American Championship and, possibly, in the World Cup. “I was able to successfully apply the new knowledge I absorbed there.”

The Fupes karateka is also fighting for a place in the Brazilian team, in the team category. Seven athletes will be called up and he is among 21 names selected by the Brazilian Confederation of the sport that can be chosen to make up the team.
