River pirates are arrested with weapons and ammunition after attacking riverside dwellers in the Amazon

Manaus/AM – Three men, aged 19, 31, and 53, whose names were not revealed by the police, were arrested on Wednesday (24), suspected of attacking riverside dwellers in the interior of Amazonas. Weapons and various ammunition were seized by the 3rd Military Police Battalion (BPM).

According to the police, the incident was registered in the municipality of Coari. The police team was carrying out a joint inspection with the municipality’s State Secretariat for the Environment (Sema), in the Anamã Sustainable Development Reserve, when it received complaints from riverside dwellers reporting about attacks by river pirates, in the vicinity of the Bela Vista Communities. , Fortaleza and Canaã, all on the Copeá River.

The military police went to a floating boat in the Nova Esperança Community, which was identified as a possible hiding place for those responsible for the attacks on riverside residents. As they approached the vessel, three men fell into the water, who were captured by the PM’s.

The men confessed to the police that the weapons used in the crime were hidden in a forested area and that a boat used by them was in a lake close to the community.

In the locations pointed out by the suspects, four weapons were found, including a 12-gauge shotgun, a model 88 shotgun, a 40-caliber Taurus submachine gun with four magazines and a homemade 9mm caliber gun with one magazine. In addition, 228 ammunition were located, 129 of which were 12 gauge, 75 were 40 gauge and 24 were 16 gauge.

The military police also seized the boat used in the attacks and another large vessel, left at the scene by another river pirate, along with three gas cylinders, two balaclavas and two amplified speakers without receipts.

The trio was taken to the Coari Interactive Police Station (DIP).
