A 50-year-old man lost almost R$2 million after receiving a call from a fake Federal Police officer claiming that his account was being defrauded. The crime took place from Monday to Wednesday (24), when the victim contacted the police upon noticing the scam, in Maracaju (MS).
According to the police report, the false police officer identified himself as Diogo Nogueira and reported that he was from the police’s anti-fraud sector. The victim told the police that the suspect said his account was fraudulent, requiring some deposits to be made for an investigation to be carried out.
The victim also reported that after sending the amounts and proving the fraud, the bank would refund the money.
Still according to the incident, in the On Monday (22) the man made 10 transfers of R$50,000. The following day, Tuesday (23), 13 transfers of R$60 thousand. And, on Wednesday (24), another 10 transfers of R$60,000. Totaling R$1,880,000 million.
The case was registered as embezzlement and remains under investigation at the Maracaju Police Station.
