Mother and partner arrested on suspicion of death of 4-year-old child in Manaus: ‘monstrosity’, says police chief | Amazon

A woman and her partner were arrested on suspicion of torturing and killing a 4-year-old child in Manaus. The boy was the son of one of the suspects. According to the police, the victim arrived dead at the Emergency Care Unit (UPA), in the North Zone, and also showed signs of sexual abuse.

A Amazon Networkthe head of the Police Station Specialized in the Protection of Children and Adolescents (Depca), Joyce Coelho, said that the police team was called on Wednesday afternoon (24) after the women took the child’s body to the UPA.

“We received a call reporting that a male child was admitted dead to the hospital and that this child showed numerous signs of violence with bruises on his body,” said the delegate.

After examinations were carried out, the medical team found some injuries, such as fractures to the child’s ribs and pelvis. According to doctors, a staple was also extracted from the boy’s scalp.

“It’s a really shocking case. We classify it as a monstrosity after checking all the injuries this child had”, highlighted Joyce Coelho.

In addition to the physical violence, the medical team also identified a laceration on the boy’s private parts, which showed signs of sexual abuse.

“In view of all these injuries, it is clear that this child had already been tortured for some period”, reiterated the Depca head.

In testimony, the 33-year-old mother explained that the boy had lived with her and his partner for four months. Previously, the boy was raised by his maternal grandmother who passed away.

After moving in with the couple, the child was left in the care of the 31-year-old woman, while the boy’s mother went out to work.

Still during interrogation, the boy’s mother said that she did not know how the attacks had been carried out, but that since last week she had noticed bruises on the child’s body. She even questioned her companion who said the victim had fallen.

According to Joyce Coelho, none of the women admitted responsibility for the crimes, but based on the evidence presented during the process, they were arrested in the act.

The women were indicted for qualified homicide, aggravated torture and also for rape of a vulnerable person.
