The Civil Police found that the 38-year-old Russian woman, rescued in Montes Claros, lived in a “very serious situation of psychological violence”. The information was passed on by delegate Monique Morais Bicalho, in a press conference held this Thursday morning (25).

The woman was rescued after managing to contact the Russian Consulate in Belo Horizonte, via social media, and informing that she was suffering domestic violence. She lived with her partner in Coração de Jesus, with whom she has a two-year-old daughter.

“From the moment we received the news from the Consulate in Belo Horizonte, we contacted her and she came to Montes Claros clandestinely, she did not inform her husband, she just informed him that she was going to an exchange office and brought the daughter. When we found her, she was quite psychologically shaken and physically quite injured, both she and the child”, said delegate Monique Morais Bicalho.

“The forensic examination report found that the woman and the child had several bruises on their bodies. She was even in a situation of extreme emotional stress, self-mutilating. We found a very serious situation of psychological violence”, added the delegate.

The woman told the police that she met her current partner on social media three years ago, when she lived in Russia, and they started a relationship. Later, she decided to move to Brazil and went to live with him, in Coração de Jesus.

According to the investigation, the victim said that she was attacked and that the man forced her to hand over all the money she received, sent from Russia. She then used it to buy alcoholic drinks. Due to the situation, she decided to seek help from the consulate.

“She had a profession in Russia, she was a pedagogue, a teacher and she told us that she never imagined going through such a precarious and violent situation here in Brazil. She had a certain amount of money and was obliged to transfer this amount to support her partner’s addiction to alcoholic beverages.”

The man is being investigated for domestic violence, illegal restraint, bodily harm, threats and insults committed against the victim and their daughter. The investigation is being carried out at the Coração de Jesus police station.

Mother and daughter are in a safe place and have police protection. According to the delegate, the woman intends to remain living in the country.
