SC-108: stoppage of the Cocal do Sul bypass increases the cost of the work – Cotidiano

Paralyzed for almost a year, the duplication of SC-108, between Criciúma and Urussanga around Cocal do Sul, only has sections 1 and 3 authorized to continue. The largest of them, which is the outline of Cocal do Sul, is not on the horizon. In addition to not having a deadline, the interruption of this section increased the cost of the others.

This is because the deposit of stones that would be used in the asphalt subgrade is in the place where the contour will be. Without access to this deposit, the State Secretariat for Infrastructure had to make an amendment to the contract to provide for the purchase of material and other items that were not foreseen.

In total, the addition increased the cost of the work by more than R$3.7 million. Of this amount, R$2.8 million is for the purchase of more than 16 thousand cubic meters of stones. The value is greater than everything that has been carried out on the project since 2022, which corresponds to around R$2.7 million.

The request for this additive came from Setep, the company carrying out the work. The justification for acquiring the stones is the risk of accidents in the sections disturbed before the shutdown. Without the material, it would not be possible to continue the works in these locations.

Execution of the contour section depends on expropriations that have not yet been paid and there is no prediction. The State Government argues that the service order was signed in 2022, in the previous administration, without there being resources and bureaucratic conditions to complete the work.

Presentation to deputies

The highway was briefly addressed in the accounts presented by the Secretary of State for Infrastructure, Jerry Comperat the Alesc Transport, Urban Development and Infrastructure Committee this Wednesday (24).

“It is a work of ‘practically two hundred and so millions’. What has the governor authorized that can be appealed? Section 1 and section 3. And the R$ 174 million section, which is the contour, [será autorizado] in a second moment when we have resources to apply”, said Jerry.

He did not establish predictions and did not detail when the “second moment” will be. The bypass has been called for for decades to remove heavy traffic from the center of Cocal do Sul, where SC-108 is congested at peak times.

Sections 1 and 3 concern the duplication of connections between Cocal do Sul and Criciúma and Urussanga. Without the bypass, however, traffic should funnel in the central area of ​​Cocal.
