The Economic Development Committee of the Chamber of Deputies debates, this Wednesday (24), the economic impacts on the states of the Northern Region of the construction of BR-319, which connects Manaus (AM) to Porto Velho (RO). The road is part of the only road connecting the capital of Amazonas to the rest of the country.
According to deputy Sidney Leite (PSD-AM), who requested the debate, the reforms in BR-319 are a historic demand of the people of Amazonas and Rondônia. “The highway is depreciated and in a state of high dependence on maintenance works”, he explains.
He says that the conditions of the highway create an isolation of Amazonas, which makes it difficult both for the entry of products and the flow of production from the Manaus Free Trade Zone.
“Logistical alternatives must be considered and one of them is precisely the reform of BR-319, which will provide significant economic gains for the state of Amazonas”, he argues.
For him, it is necessary to discuss the impact of the highway on the region and the urgency of recovering it to ensure the population’s right to come and go and better removal of products.
The debate will be held at 4 pm, in plenary 13.
