Bolsonaro will visit Minas Gerais with an eye on municipal elections

-

Former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) will return to Belo Horizonte at the beginning of next month. On May 11, he will be present in the capital of Minas Gerais for the launch of state deputy Bruno Engler’s pre-candidacy for mayor.

Next, according to sources from the Liberal Party (PL), Bolsonaro will go to Divinópolis, in the Central-West Region. In the land of one of his political allies — Cleitinho (Republicans) —, the former president must meet with Gleidston Azevedo (Novo), the senator’s brother, to also discuss the municipal elections.

Bolsonaro is an honorary citizen of Minas Gerais and is running for some city halls in the state. Investigated for an attempted coup on January 8, 2023, he targets Minas as one of the possible electoral strongholds, betting on the “legacy” of Bolsonarism.

In addition to Engler and Azevedo, Bolsonaro’s goal is to win over voters in Uberaba, in the Triângulo; Contagem and Santa Luzia, in Greater BH; and Uberlândia, in the Triângulo. On Monday (22/4), the State of Minas published that the Minas Gerais Liberal Party (PL) is considering repeating the acts on Av. Paulista and Copacabana in Belo Horizonte. The intention is for the demonstration to also take place next month.
