The Federal Highway Police (PRF) launched the fourth edition of Operation Ikto, focused on reducing accidents on federal highways in Bahia. The initiative began on Monday (22) and runs until May 12targeting places where there are more records of collisions with victims.

During Ikto IV, actions will focus on curb risky behaviors, such as not wearing seat belts, overtaking prohibited on single lanes, drunk driving and cell phone use.

The PRF will intensify the use of portable radars to curb speeding, after capturing more than 300 images of vehicles speeding on just one stretch of BR 324.

Furthermore, There will be specific inspections of motorcycles, whose occupants have been the main victims of accidents. Agents from all PRF police stations in Bahia will participate in the operation, with reinforcement from the Motorcyclists and Traffic and Transport Inspection Groups.

The critical points were identified based on surveys by the PRF’s Traffic Accident Registration, Expertise and Prevention Center. The operation will cover sections of BRs 101, 110, 116, 135, 324, 367, 415 and 418, under the jurisdiction of the Police Stations of Simões Filho, Feira de Santana, Itabuna, Vitória da Conquista and Eunápolis.
