Detran-MS promotes collective donation and warns about the demand for blood bags in traffic accidents

Without citizen awareness, investments in urban road signage, national and state educational campaigns, traffic education actions for all age groups are not enough to prevent serious traffic accidents.

To give you an idea, Santa Casa de Campo Grande assists, on average, 3 thousand victims of traffic accidents per year. Depending on the trauma suffered by these patients, it is necessary to replace them with blood bags. This is one of the reasons for the constant need to maintain strategic supply in the Hemosul Network that serves the entire State.

This Wednesday (24) employees from Detran-MS (Mato Grosso do Sul State Traffic Department) made the first collective donation of 2024 at Hemosul Santa Casa. Each year, three actions are carried out aimed at donating blood and registering in the National Registry of Bone Marrow Donors (Redome).

Sakai interrupted his vacation to donate blood with the servers

Even on vacation, server Octacílio Sakai, from the Traffic Inspection team, insisted on participating in the action. “I think a lot about that thing about loving others. I have to thank God that I am able to donate. I prefer to give than receive. I really believe in the law of return, that the more good you can do for your neighbor, it will come back to you twice as much.”

Server Afonso Córdoba, head of vehicles at Detran Pátio Central, donates blood whenever he can and has even experienced a situation where a family member needed it. “I think it’s cool to help people, we always see a lot of accidents, people in need, and sometimes there’s a coincidence from a friend. Recently my uncle needed it. Come donate, helping others doesn’t cost anything.”

Queuing up to donate for the first time at the age of 31, outsourced employee Danithielle Nascimento da Silva said that she had already planned to donate a few days ago, but that the rush of her routine with work and two children had not yet allowed her to donate. the gesture came to fruition.

“Today this opportunity arose to come to Detran-MS. But I was already intent on helping save lives. I don’t know what tomorrow will be, I don’t know if I’ll need it or if any of my loved ones will need it. Doing good without looking at those who are magnificent is wonderful. I already have a feeling of gratitude, because every day is a day to celebrate. Just being able to open your eyes and go to work, earn a living and have the opportunity to live this day longer, is gratitude, right? Imagine being able to save lives?!”, he reflects.

Eliane Margarido is a social worker who contacts institutions for group donations

For the social worker at Hemosul Santa Casa, Eliane Margarido de Souza, these actions in partnership with public and private institutions are fundamental to saving lives. “It is very important for us to invite and get in touch with the institutions. Because with one bag of blood you can save up to four lives. So it is an act of love and solidarity, and this work together with institutions is fundamental”, she highlighted.

The Medical Coordinator of the Emergency Room at Santa Casa, Marcos Bonilha, explains that the average number of blood bags used in victims of traffic accidents largely depends on the type of trauma suffered. “When you need to use blood in patients who are victims of very serious polytrauma, which are patients who generally have some injury, some important trauma that needs replacement. At least use 2 units, depending on the type of bleeding and is compensated by the amount of loss, if you have had a very large loss, use 3 to 5 bags of blood”.

The specialist also explains that when there is bleeding, the main thing is to contain it, and then replace it in sufficient quantity so that the patient’s body can produce it on its own again. “Blood transfusion is like an organ transplant, it has its complications.”
