The Public Ministry of Alagoas initiated two administrative procedures to investigate a situation of mistreatment involving an elderly person in the municipality of Belém, and to confirm sexual abuse and pregnancy of a teenager in Coité do Nóia. The complaints were filed with the Taquarana Public Prosecutor’s Office, headed by Public Prosecutor Sérgio Ricardo Leite.
The Elderly Statute states that elderly people, among their priority rights, must be guaranteed the right to life, health, food, citizenship, freedom, dignity, respect and family and community coexistence. But, according to reports sent to the Public Ministry, the situation involving the elderly Irineu Ferreira da Silva, resident of the municipality of Belém, shows the opposite.
“The complaints say that the citizen is being a victim of mistreatment, abandonment, psychological and physical violence, committed by his daughters and, as a result, he is very weakened due to the lack of basic daily care, such as medication administration, hygiene and food. As soon as we became aware, the procedure was initiated and updated information on the case in question was requested from CREAS in Belém”, explains prosecutor Sérgio Ricardo.
On the other hand, acting in defense of an individual right unavailable to children and adolescents, the Public Prosecutor’s Office wants to investigate a situation of rape involving a minor, now 16 years old, but who has been suffering sexual abuse since she was 13.
“The complaint states that the minor, resident in the rural area of Coité do Nóia, began to suffer sexual abuse by an acquaintance, at the age of 13, and that she is currently pregnant. It is necessary for the case to be investigated and clarified and the crime confirmed, with the appropriate measures adopted”, states the ministerial member. For this situation, the Guardianship Council of Coité do Nóia/AL was asked to send updated information.
