Gang leader responsible for ‘bank robberies’ arrested in downtown Rio | Rio de Janeiro

Rio – The leader of a gang responsible for committing robberies known as ‘bank robberies’ was arrested red-handed on Rua Sete de Setembro, in the center of Rio, while he was in front of a financial institution observing and waiting for possible victims to leave . The case happened last Monday (1st).

The suspect, identified as Fábio Cassiano da Silva, was being monitored by agents from the 5th DP (Men de Sá). According to investigations, he belongs to the main and most active criminal organization for robbing banks in the city of Rio. The group operates in several neighborhoods in the capital, with the main targets being in the central region, south zone and west zone.

Arrested in the act for the first time in 2008, Fábio has an extensive criminal record, with more than ten notes, in addition to being identified as the author of several robberies and illegal possession of firearms.

According to the Civil Police, on December 18 last year, he was released and started wearing an electronic ankle bracelet, but he returned to work in the organization, this time, no longer as a protagonist in the robberies, but rather as a “scout”, monitoring and choosing victims from the group.

During his last actions, the intelligence sector of the 5th DP managed to observe that the criminal acted in the following way: He chose the target bank branch, sat in the seat waiting for service and waited for the money counting machine to sound, a warning signal. that some customer would withdraw a large amount. After noticing that the withdrawal would take place, he accompanied the customer who had just withdrawn the money to the exit of the bank, where, after a few meters on a public street, the victim was approached by other members of the gang who, through threats with firearms, they stole the amount withdrawn and their personal belongings.

Fábio’s arrest is part of an unfolding of intelligence actions carried out by the district with the aim of monitoring and curbing the commission of crimes in the unit’s area.
