From April 2nd, Conjunto Nacional will have the Aconchego Room, a decompression space completely designed for people with ASD (Autistic Spectrum Disorder). The environment, which will operate on the 2nd floor, next to the Family Space, has ergonomic furniture, air conditioning and acoustic comfort, conditions to bring comfort and welcome to customers with autism, whether adults or children. Access to the site is free and takes place during the mall’s opening hours.
“We have put together the ideal conditions to give our patrons who are on the autistic spectrum the opportunity to have moments of relaxation in a place where they do not have excessive visual and sound stimuli, something that is common in everyday life in a shopping center. We welcome this audience and we offer the opportunity to decompress amidst common tasks, which can be stressful”, highlights Renata Salino, superintendent of Conjunto Nacional.
The opening date of the space coincides with the celebration of World Autism Awareness Day, April 2nd, it was created by the United Nations (UN) in 2007. This date was chosen with the aim of providing information to the population to reduce discrimination and prejudice against individuals who have ASD. Autism is a health condition characterized by challenges in social skills, repetitive behaviors, speech and nonverbal communication; however, appropriate therapies for each case can help these people improve their relationship with the world.
The Aconchego Room has an armchair and ergometric chair and a side table. The environment is air-conditioned and has an acoustic system with noise neutralization. The location joins other Conjunto Nacional initiatives aimed at people with ASD, such as the loan of noise-muffling headphones and the existence of exclusive parking spaces for families with autism.
