Salvador’s Basic Food Basket closes March with an increase of 1.72%

This Monday (18), Governor Jerônimo Rodrigues and representatives from Build Your Dreams (BYD) carried out a technical visit to the Camaçari Automotive Industrial Complex, in the metropolitan region of Salvador. The group inspected the various spaces of the project, which will house three manufacturing units of the Chinese automaker. With an investment of approximately R$5.5 billion, the plant’s adaptation should be completed by the end of this year.

“In addition to the consolidation of BYD’s commitments to the implementation of the industry in Camaçari, we had a significant increase in the value announced from the last meeting to this one today. Today, BYD announces 5.5 billion reais in this initial part of the plant. We are talking about an outflow of 3 billion to 5 and a half billion. Therefore, almost double the value of investments”, highlighted governor Jerônimo Rodrigues.

The expectation is that more than ten thousand jobs will be created, both direct and indirect. “We will be happy with the job opportunities we will generate and the joy of realizing that the world will know that BYD, a Chinese industry, produces and assembles cars here, in Camaçari”, added the chief executive.

“Every month that you come here, you will see this factory differently. We are going to put the highest technology here. It will be one of the most advanced and modern factories in the world”, promised Stella Li, CEO Americas and global vice president of BYD. She raised the possibility of Chinese President Xi Jinping coming to Brazil for the inauguration.

The units will produce chassis for electric and hybrid passenger vehicles, and electric buses and trucks. The site will also be used to process lithium and iron phosphate for export. It is planned to build a research center to develop a hybrid car, which also uses electricity and ethanol here, in the state.

Installation in Bahia will be in 2024

In the first stage, the Bahian factory will be responsible for supplying the automotive market with three models. Those chosen were the Dolphin hatch and the Yuan Plus SUV, initially, and the Song Plus hybrid, in the second stage. The initial capacity is expected to be 150 thousand units per year. The second phase will be dedicated to the chemical industry, for processing lithium and iron phosphate for processing and exporting 100% of production to China. The third and final stage will be the manufacture of chassis for the assembly and production of electric buses and trucks.

The estimate is that production will begin in the last quarter of 2024, as highlighted by BYD’s special advisor, Alexandre Baldy. “The works can now officially begin. Today, the governor of the state of Bahia, Jerônimo Rodrigues, brought his entire team here and also the necessary license to allow these civil works to begin tomorrow. And I hope that we can accelerate this process as much as possible, so that, in a few months, we can complete the initial phase, which is assembling the cars, which could be in the last quarter of 2024, so that we can start, from In fact, full production will begin in mid-2025. The implementation of the entire factory will take two years”, he detailed.

The company has already requested an installation license, authorization to suppress vegetation and authorization for fauna management, from the State Department of the Environment (Sema). The process has been completed and is about to be published in the Official State Gazette (DOE).

Another important measure for the installation of the automaker in Bahia was the commitment made by the State Government to grant tax incentives provided for in the Proauto and Desenvolvimento programs, which aim to complement and diversify the state’s industrial and agro-industrial matrix, by encouraging the installation of new enterprises. industrial sectors and the expansion, reactivation and/or modernization of already installed enterprises, through the exemption of the Tax on the Circulation of Goods and Services (ICMS) on the acquisition of goods intended for fixed assets. In addition to this, the State of Bahia approved the exemption from Motor Vehicle Ownership Tax (IPVA) for electric vehicles worth up to R$300,000.

There was also a proposal to change the name of the road that gives access to the company, from Henry Ford to Estrada dos Sonhos. The visit was also attended by the secretaries of Economic Development, Angelo Almeida, of the Environment, Eduardo Sodré, and of Finance, Manoel Vitório
