This year, more than 10 thousand calls were recorded, while last year there were no more than 9 thousand

During the period from March 28 to 31, the Urgency and Emergency Service (Samu) recorded an increase in calls to number 192 and incidents attended to, across the state. This year, more than 10 thousand calls were recorded, while last year there were no more than 9 thousand.

In relation to incidents attended to, the reports registered 4,916 in 2024, surpassing last year’s attendances, which were 4,242, during the long holiday. This represents an increase of 15.88%. The region that had the most occurrences was North/Northeast (Joinville) with 942, followed by Vale do Rio Itajaí (Blumenau) with 882, Greater Florianópolis with 852 and South (Criciúma) with 703. Among the main clinical cases are cardiovascular, neurological and gastrointestinal.

The superintendent of Urgency and Emergency at SES, Marcos Fonseca, relates this increase in the number of visits to the high demand for tourists heading to Santa Catarina. “The numbers don’t lie, Santa Catarina has been the increasingly sought after tourist destination in the country and abroad as well. Therefore, investments do not stop, whether in the constant training of teams, in the acquisition of materials and equipment, both in ground and air service”, he states.

Samu Santa Catarina offers service coverage in most of its territory, standing out among other Samus in Brazil. In the state, there are 28 Advanced Support Units (USA), 97 Basic Support Units, two helicopters (rotary wing) and one airplane (fixed wing) and more recently three motor vehicles were implemented. “When it comes to urgency and emergencies, we have to guarantee quick access for the user to the service, in the shortest possible time. We believe that continued education of the population regarding the use of this service is the best way to optimize the delivery of assistance in real emergency situations”, reinforces the superintendent.

The Service continues to seek continuous improvements and the current management of the State Government is working on expanding and renewing the fleet, acquiring new ASUs, USBs and more motorbikes to guarantee quality and agility throughout the care process, until the patient is referred to the referenced hospitals.
