In an effort to transform Brazil’s educational reality, the federal government took a big step. The launch of the Pé-de-Meia program was recently announced, a revolutionary initiative that promises to make available R$ 9,200 per low-income student, with the aim of ensuring that these young people remain in secondary education. But how exactly does this program intend to do this, and who will benefit? Below, we detail the nuances of this innovative public policy.

How does Caixa’s nest egg program work?

O nest egg program emerges as a solution to one of the great challenges of Brazilian education: school dropout among young people aged 14 to 24 who come from families benefiting from Bolsa Família and are enrolled in the public secondary education network.

In order to cover essential expenses and promote the continuity of studies, the government will distribute the amount in R$ 9,200 throughout the three years of high school. This amount aims to assist from enrollment to annual completion of the course.

How do I register for the sock egg program?

Step by step to participate in the Pé-de-Meia Program:

  1. Check the requirements: Make sure that you meet the necessary criteria to participate in the Pé-de-Meia Program: have a CPF, be enrolled until April 2024 in a public school attending high school and be part of a family that benefits from the Bolsa Família Program.
  2. Digital account opening: If you are selected by the MEC to participate in the Program, CAIXA will open a digital account in your name. If you already have an active CAIXA Tem account, it will not be necessary to open a new account, as long as it is of the Digital Social Savings or CAIXA Tem Savings type and is in your name.
  3. Authorization of the Legal Responsible Person: If you are under 18 years old, your Legal Guardian must authorize the movement of the account through the CAIXA Tem App, using the option “Programa Pé-de-Meia” – “Allow access to a minor”. If the Legal Guardian is not your father or mother, the authorization must be carried out at a CAIXA branch.
  4. Uploading the student ID: If the Legal Guardian is the student’s father and is authorizing the movement of the account through the CAIXA Tem App, it will be necessary to upload the student’s ID into the app.
  5. Account movement: The student account can be operated through the following channels: CAIXA Tem App, CAIXA ATMs (ATM), Lotteries and CAIXA Aqui Correspondents using digital withdrawal with token and account card.

Who receives the nest egg benefit?

A distribution of financial aid is done strategically throughout the student’s high school education:

  • 1st grade of high school: R$3,000, divided between registration, monthly fees and completion of the series.
  • 2nd year of high school: Identical value to the first year, totaling R$3,000 when completing the educational stages.
  • 3rd year of high school: An additional incentive of R$3,200, including participation in ENEM, thus reaching the total promised value of R$9,200.

This planning seeks to ensure that young people not only receive the necessary financial support, but also feel motivated to continue their studies until completion.
