Prosecutor calls lawyer a ‘chicken’ and accuses her of doing a ‘striptease’ in court; watch

The lawyer Sarah Quinetti reported the prosecutor Francisco Santiago to have called her “garnished chicken” and accused of do a “striptease” during a session at the Minas Gerais Court of Justice. The case occurred on the 26th, and the trial had to be canceled because of friction between the defense and the prosecution.

To the Earth, Sarah Quinetti gives details on how the mess started. She complains that the prosecutor treated her differently throughout the trial, allegedly because of her status as a woman.

“During the jury, a few times I noticed, unfortunately, some of his indifference towards me and the other lawyer, who was a man, I saw that at no time did he refute the other lawyer’s words, nor any of the other lawyer’s thesis. Only when I I opened my mouth, I was hit a lot and everything. So far, so good”, he begins.

When Sarah was explaining her defense thesis, towards the end of the trial rites, the prosecutor started insulting her. “That’s when he interrupted me. He asked me a question, I told him he was disturbing me. Then he said: ‘You look like a garnished chicken'”.

Sarah didn’t like the comparison and then asked the prosecutor if he would like her to change gowns with her male colleague so she could be respected.

“I was wearing a collar, sleeves, a dress blouse with a pink cuff, pants that almost dragged on the floor. There was no part of my body showing. And then I took my gown and said that I would change gowns with the lawyer. At that moment he turned around and said: ‘Now you’re going to do a striptease in the plenary too'”.

Risk of disciplinary sanctions

The incident described by the lawyer appears in the minutes of the session. Two lawyers, Rodrigo Badaró and Rogério Varela, filed a disciplinary complaint about the prosecutor’s attitude with the National Council of the Public Ministry.

The lawyers consider that there was “a serious violation of the functional duties that are imposed by Law on Members of the Public Prosecutor’s Office, demonstrating a complete disregard for the dignity of the legal profession and, by extension, for respect for human rights and gender equality”.

The Public Ministry of Minas Gerais, however, told the Earth that the General Inspectorate, the local body responsible for analyzing possible representations relating to members of the institution, did not receive a representation that refers to the actions of the aforementioned prosecutor.

Sarah Quinetti clarified that she has not yet been able to formally report the situation herself, but that this week she will open a police report on the case.
