This Tuesday (02), the National Council of Justice (CNJ) resumed the trial of the case against judge Geraldo de Almeida Santiago, of the Court of Justice of Mato Grosso do Sul. He is accused of disciplinary infractions, including the “reiterated non-compliance” with orders from the Superior Court of Justice (STJ) during his period as judge of the 5th Civil Court of Campo Grande.
Furthermore, there are suspicions that, in a lawsuit filed by Banco do Brasil, the judge was represented by the same lawyer to whom he won the case.
The trial had been suspended since March 5th of this year due to a request for review. Counselor Giovanni Olsson, rapporteur of the case, voted in favor of the punishment with compulsory retirement for judge Geraldo de Almeida Santiago.
During today’s session, Marcelo Teto voted against retirement, accompanied by advisor Marcos Vinicius. The trial was postponed again due to a request from counselor Pablo Coutinho Barreto.
So far, rapporteur Giovanni Olsson has positioned himself in favor of the punishment, while there has been disagreement on the part of Marcelo Teto, accompanied by Marcos Vinicius. With two votes against, the judge has an advantage, but the outcome of the trial has been postponed until a new date is set by Minister Luís Roberto Barroso, president of the CNJ.
