Detran-CE collects more than 100 animals abandoned on the banks of ECs during Holy Week

The Ceará State Traffic Department (Detran-CE) recorded the collection of 105 animals, which were abandoned, on the banks of state highways (CEs), during the Holy Week period, between the 27th and 31st of March. The aim of the work is to avoid accidents on the roads and preserve the lives of drivers and the animals themselves.

In total, animals of five different species were seized, including donkeys (34), goats (31), horses (19), cattle (17) and mules (4), which were sent to support points at Detran’s regional headquarters. -CE, where they remain in corrals and receive the necessary care and food. Guardians or guardians, duly identified, have up to seven days to present themselves (from the date of seizure) and carry out the appropriate removal of the animals.

If the removal does not take place within the specified period, upon payment of a fine and the animal’s stay, they are sent to the state transit agency’s farm, located in the municipality of Santa Quitéria, 226 km from Fortaleza, where they are weighed, vaccinated and continue to be created with the appropriate structure.

Detran-CE reinforces to drivers and pedestrians that it is important and necessary to report animals loose on the banks of ECs, through the number (85) 3101-4782 or 190, and the Military Police of Ceará will contact Detran for the appropriate retreat. The work of seizing animals is carried out by specialized teams, which travel up to 450 km per day, and use 14 transport trucks, in addition to the special equipment necessary to carry out the procedure safely.

Donations

Animals suitable for human consumption, which are not rescued by their respective owners, such as cattle and goats, are donated to philanthropic institutions that assist people, public hospitals or public schools, in accordance with State Law No. 13,045/2000. Interested institutions must forward the request in writing to the Detran-CE Superintendency, in addition to documentation for registration and analysis of the necessary requirements to participate in the project.
