As of March 31 of this year, Acre recorded 22 fires, according to data from the National Institute for Space Research (Inpe). This number is 144% higher than that recorded in 2023 in the same period, but 66% lower than that recorded in 2022 (27 hot spots).
From January 1st to March 31st, 2024, Brazil recorded 14,571 fires, which were captured by satellites and indicate that geographic points captured by sensors have a temperature above 47°C and a minimum area of 900 m², according to Inpe, which makes the data available on the Programa Queimadas platform.
In a report on the Metrópoles website, the director of Science at the Amazon Environmental Research Institute (Ipam), Ane Alencar, explains that Inpe’s fire data is important for government decision-making, despite not recording the size of the area affected. .
“This has fundamental value in helping with action, helping to know if a fire is occurring and where it is going. These are fundamental factors to help in the fight”, he highlights.
The states with the highest number of outbreaks in 2024 are: Roraima, with 4,090 occurrences – 310% more than in 2023; and Mato Grosso, with 3,334 outbreaks – 150% above the same period last year.
