Figures released this afternoon (1st) by the 1st Environmental Military Police Battalion (PMA) of Mato Grosso do Sul, showed that between March 28th and 31st there were 11 infraction notices issued by Operation Holy Week, totaling R$ 17,422.00 in fines.

The seized material included 36 kg of fish, various fishing gear such as reels, branch hooks and cast nets, as well as two vessels equipped with outboard motors, used in illegal fishing. These actions not only prevented the continuation of these illicit activities, but also served as a warning to potential offenders.

In addition to predatory fishing, there was monitoring and combating environmental crimes, such as illegal deforestation, wildlife trafficking and animal abuse. A point of emphasis during the operation was the reinforcement of the ban on fishing for Dourado, a species crucial to the region’s aquatic biodiversity and which is protected by specific measures for its conservation.

The operation resulted in six arrests for illegal activities linked to the environment, in addition to three arrests and one arrest of a teenage offender.
