El Salvador decided to open its market to chicken meat and eggs produced in Brazil, and the news encouraged exporters, who see the measure as a good opportunity to expand sales in Central America. For Ricardo Santin, president of the Brazilian Animal Protein Association (ABPA), which represents companies such as BRF, Seara (JBS) and Aurora, the moment is favorable for the country’s proteins in the Central American market, and new partnerships could be established to boost shipments.

With 6.4 million inhabitants, El Salvador imported 22 thousand tons of chicken meat and 2.5 thousand tons of eggs in 2023, mainly from the United States and Guatemala. Brazilian chicken meat exports totaled 5.1 million tons last year, and generated US$9.8 billion. Egg shipments reached 25.4 thousand tons, or US$63.2 million.
