This Sunday, March 31, the Federal Highway Police ended Operation Holy Week 2024 in Rio Grande do Norte, which lasted 4 days. The accident statistics revealed a 31% increase in the overall number of accidents (17), compared to the same period last year, with 23 people injured and no deaths.
During the holiday, 1,748 people and 1,612 vehicles were inspected, with 225 drivers caught unduly overtaking and 5 drivers using their cell phones while driving. There were also records of 80 drivers or passengers not wearing helmets, 21 children being transported without a restraint device (DRC) and 80 people not wearing seat belts.
Regarding drunk driving, 1,344 alcohol tests were carried out and 39 drivers were charged.
Fighting crime
In relation to combating crime, federal highway police officers seized a firearm, 12 rounds of ammunition, a false document and recovered three vehicles.
In total, 17 people were arrested for various crimes and referred to the judicial police, 7 of them for environmental crimes. Fourteen specimens of native wildlife birds were collected and sent to IBAMA.
