Dentist Júnior Nascimento, who launched a challenge by hiding R$ 2 thousand reais in a roundabout in Rio Branco on the 10th, was charged with conduct harmful to the environment and will present a project to repair the damage caused to the space by the crowd who went to the roundabout in search of the amount.

According to the municipal secretary of Environment, Carlos Nasserala, in the notice, Nascimento was given two options, to bear the costs defined by the secretariat or to present his own project for the repairs, which would need to be evaluated.

“At the time, he was also notified to carry out environmental repairs, and was given the opportunity to pay the costs or carry them out on his own, presenting a repair project to be approved by this department,” the secretary told the g1.

The dentist confirmed that he presented his own project and that he hired a team of gardeners and bricklayers to assess what was damaged. He once again emphasized that he did not advise the public to use tools in the search for money.

“A gardener and a bricklayer, at my request, assessed the situation on the 11th. [de março] in the morning, early, before the secretariat even got there, and they found that it was not a case of destruction as the secretariat itself announced. So, I looked for them, and faced with this tiny problem, I could solve it myself by leaving it the same as it was or even better,” she said.

Now, the dentist has a deadline of 10 days to present the project to the secretariat, but says he is waiting for the agency to send a report on the damage found at the site, which also has a deadline of 10 days.

“In addition to being viable, according to the 3 gardeners, it is what the law recommends, the status quo ante, the initial state of the roundabout. This, even though I am not responsible for the individual conduct of things, according to the penal code. There is no need to talk about a crime when carrying out the game, as there is no law prior to the fact that classifies this conduct as criminal”, argues Nascimento.

Dentist launched ‘challenge’ on Sunday (10) and said the intention was to relax

On the afternoon of March 10, many people went to the roundabout between Estrada do Calafate and Via Verde, in Rio Branco, looking for R$2,000. Many took shovels, ladders and even entered electrical wiring galleries in search of finding the amount that had been hidden by a dentist in the capital of Acre.

Junior Nascimento published a video on a social network announcing a challenge: he states that he hid the R$2,000 in the roundabout’s construction site and that he would leave the money there until 5pm this Monday (11), and that whoever found it could stay with the value.

“I’m going to play a joke with you. I’m here at the Havan roundabout, and I’m simply going to hide R$2,000 at this roundabout, and whoever finds it will take it,” she announced.

It was enough for the case to go viral and a crowd to form at the scene. Throughout the afternoon and early evening, people from various neighborhoods in the capital went to the roundabout in search of the “prize”. Nascimento followed part of the movement, and published another video in which he plays with the treasure “hunters”.

Due to the large movement, a lot of damage was recorded at the site. According to the Municipal Environment Secretariat (Semeia), plants were uprooted, many holes were made in the area and covers of wiring passages and galleries were damaged.

To the g1, Nascimento said that he did not imagine that the challenge would have so much repercussion, and that the intention was to play with the public. He also emphasizes that he did not advise the public to use tools in the search for value.

“The idea was totally beneficial, to relax people. At no point did I advise people to use tools to dig in the garden. At no point did I think it would have such an impact,” she claimed.

According to the dentist, who is also a farmer and shares posts about international travel on his profile, the idea came up spontaneously. Around 1 pm on Sunday, he went to the place and started what he calls a joke.

Many people went to the place in search of money that was hidden in the construction site.

Due to the repercussion, Nascimento said he received some criticism, but stated that most people understood that it was a joke. According to the dentist, many people came forward saying they found the money, but it was still not possible to confirm who actually found the money.

“After that first time, I saw that many people did not have the education to look for the object without damaging public property. I didn’t tell people to do that. People driven by greed can do anything, including hurting other people, so I won’t do anything else. It was just a joke to end quickly, but now, a few people are looking for someone to blame for the recklessness of others who participated without due prudence,” she commented.

However, according to the Secretary of Environment of the capital of Acre, Carlos Nasserala, Nascimento is responsible for the damage caused at the site. The secretariat evaluates with the Municipal Attorney General’s Office (PGM) to define what legal measures can be applied to the case.

Nasserala also highlights that the space was badly damaged, and, in addition to the financial loss, the action could have put people at risk.

“A very serious thing is to destroy public assets, something that is paid for by every citizen living in our cities. It’s a very serious situation, but there was also a risk of accidents, people in the rain were digging. There was a wire stripped, someone could have been electrocuted. In that situation, there were people who entered tunnels, because there are galleries down there, and there were people who entered. We are looking at all of this, looking at the financial loss that occurred, looking at the loss that could have happened and we are going to communicate all of this to the Public Prosecutor’s Office”, he emphasizes.

To assist in possible actions due to the damage to the roundabout, the secretary said he will request images from security cameras in the region.

“They carried out the investigation. I found out, I’m going to look to see if there are cameras around the area, and they say there were even accidents, because with people running there, it caused an accident. You have to get up if this happens. It was an unprecedented problem, what they did was absurd. And the person who did this will definitely be penalized according to the law,” he adds.
