A 63-year-old tourist from Minas Gerais died after drowning on a beach in Piúma, Espírito Santo, last Saturday (30). The victim was from Manhuaçu, in Zona da Mata Mineira and was taking part in an excursion to the state for the weekend.

According to the Espírito Santo Military Fire Department, the man and his companion were trying to cross the sandbanks between Piúma Beach and Gambá Island on foot. During the crossing, the elderly man lost his balance and was carried away by the sea waves.

When firefighters arrived at the scene, they found the lifeguard looking for the tourist. The victim’s body would have been removed from the sea by fishermen, with no vital signs, in a location far from the drowning.

Firefighter and lifeguard teams began cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) maneuvers at the scene and continued with the assistance of the Mobile Emergency Care Service (Samu). Despite efforts, death was confirmed by the rescue doctor.
