A 70-year-old man died after his body was burned in São Sebastião, in Bico do Papagaio, on Saturday (30). The suspect in the crime is the victim’s son, who resisted arrest and had to be restrained by the Military Police with a gunshot to the leg.

The police were called to investigate a report of mistreatment, but when they arrived at the address, neighbors reported that the elderly man had died. The victim was found in one of the rooms of the house with his face charred.

According to information from the Legal Medical Institute (IML), the victim also suffered attacks with a sharp weapon.

The 45-year-old suspect was in the kitchen with a knife in his hand. The police ordered him to stop and asked him to throw the knife on the ground, but they were not responded to.

The soldiers then fired three shots from a 12-gauge shotgun with rubber bullets. Even so, the suspect did not give in and the team used lethal ammunition, hitting one of the attacker’s legs.

The police provided assistance and took the suspect to the regional emergency room in the city of Augustinópolis. After medical attention, he was taken to the Police Station.

The IIML attended the scene and the elderly man’s body was taken to the Araguaína unit. After due procedures, he was released for the wake and burial.
