In the two months – January and February -, São Paulo led with 137.5 thousand new vacancies, followed by Santa Catarina with 52.2 thousand, Paraná 52.1 thousand, Minas Gerais 47.5 thousand and Rio Grande do Sul 45.7 thousand vacancies. Brazil exceeded expectations in February with a balance of 306,111 jobs. In January there were 180,395.

In the month of February, according to Caged, all groups showed a positive balance in SC. Services led the way with 12,802 new jobs. In second place was industry with 8,671, then came civil construction with 2,197, agriculture opened 1,625 and commerce had a positive balance of 1,072 vacancies.

But in the two months, which added 52,193 new vacancies in the State, the leadership went to industry with a positive balance of 22,856 jobs, followed by services with 19,344, then civil construction with 6,067, agriculture 3,827 and commerce, with 99.

The municipalities in Santa Catarina that created the most vacancies in February were Joinville (1,973), followed by Itajaí (1,612), São Joaquim (1,088), Jaraguá do Sul (1,051), Fraiburgo (688), Chapecó (663), Blumenau (553) and Palhoça (543). Cities that are part of the regional hubs of SC also had a positive result: Florianópolis (384), Lages (256) and Criciúma (150).

Santa Catarina’s continuity as the second largest state that generates jobs in Brazil despite being the sixth largest Gross Domestic Product (GDP), shows the quality and diversity of the State’s economy. The industry draws attention in the transformation and construction sectors. The positive impact of the fruit harvest appears in the high hiring rates in São Joaquim and Fraiburgo.

For the president of Facisc, Elson Otto, the growth of almost 30% in total vacancies in February compared to the same month in 2023 shows the gradual recovery of the industry and continued growth in commerce and services.

– The increase in the population’s purchasing power has made it possible to open up more vacancies in commerce and services, with good prospects for 2024 – he commented.

According to analysis by the Facisc Intelligence and Strategy Center (CIE), the creation of vacancies in the industry was driven, in part, by the increase in exports of animal protein. The wood sector also hired more because it increased exports to the United States.

Also according to the CIE, civil construction created more vacancies for building construction, facing the lagged effect of the reduction in interest rates. There were also more contracts for port works.
