A child just six months old died in a daycare center in Major Vieira, in the North Planalto of Santa Catarina, on Tuesday afternoon (26). The case happened at the Estephania Sjabelski Municipal Daycare Center.

The child would have died shortly after lunch, during the period when children sleep in the institution. According to the JMais portal, when the teachers went to wake the boy up for his afternoon snack, he no longer responded.
The teachers, upon realizing that the boy was unresponsive, sought help from the firefighters, who took the child to the hospital. Despite attempts to revive him, the student did not resist.
Initially, the ND More had reported that the victim was 6 years old, but information from the Department of Education confirms that the child was 6 months old.
Daycare classes have been suspended
Major Vieira city hall declared an official three-day mourning period, in solidarity with the family, teachers and staff at the daycare center where the child’s death occurred. “A dear boy and loved by everyone”, published the city hall.
Classes at the daycare center where the child studied were suspended this Wednesday (27). To date, the cause of death has not been disclosed.
The report from the ND Mais portal contacted the municipality’s Department of Education to ask for a position. According to the Secretary of Education, Marilda Rodecz, “the population of Major Vieira is in mourning”.
“We still don’t know the cause of this child’s death, but all measures are being taken, and investigations are being carried out so that we can discover the cause that led to this child’s death,” he stated.
