The Ministry of Health is allocating a budget of R$ 24.5 million to strengthen the federal resource of the Basic Component of Pharmaceutical Assistance (Cbaf) within the scope of the Unified Health System (SUS) destined for the state of Bahia. This initiative aims to cover medicines that treat the symptoms of dengue and other diseases that affect the Brazilian population in Primary Health Care.

The resources allocated to Cbaf are calculated based on population data and will be transferred to subsidize the acquisition of medicines and supplies listed in the National List of Essential Medicines (Rename). The budget will be restored in a single installment and payment is scheduled for the next few days.

Carlos Gadelha, Secretary of Science, Technology and Innovation and the Health Economic-Industrial Complex, highlights: “We largely recomposed the basic care budget with a retroactive increase of 26% since last year, increasing the investment by R$1 .2 billion to R$1.5 billion. These resources will be available this week to all Brazilian municipalities.”

The announcement of this increase was made on Wednesday (21), during an update to the press on the epidemiological scenario of dengue in Brazil. This measure joins the financial support of more than R$79 million made available by the Ministry of Health to states and municipalities to face health emergencies, including dengue.

The Basic Component of Pharmaceutical Assistance (Cbaf) is responsible for ensuring the population’s access to medicines and supplies for the treatment of the main health problems in Primary Health Care. These items are listed in annexes I and IV of the current Rename and their Acquisition is done centrally (by the Union) and decentralized (by the states, Federal District and municipalities).
